12 June – The Bonded Warehouse, Stourbridge

The ADJQ has been established for over 10 years and has performed in many of the finest of British Jazz clubs and festivals including Jazzlines Birmingham, Stratford Jazz, Malvern Jazz, Birmingham International Jazz Festival, Bebop Club Bristol, Tobacco Factory Bristol, Chesterfield Jazz Club, Swansea Jazzland and Stafford International Jazz Festival.

The ADJQ features Andy on trombones, Jo Ruddick on keys, Ben Markland on bass guitar and Neil Bullock on drums (Rhythm section subject to change as they are simply some of the best players around and in high demand).

Andy has also had a long career backing many fine musicians including Joe Lovano, Toots Thielmans, Bob Florence, Bobby Shew and Georgie Fame. He studied at the Birmingham and Paris Conservatoires and is a former member of both MYJO and NYJO. He received the Don Lusher Best Trombonist award at the 2005 BBC big Band Contest.

Trombonist Andy Derrick brings his soulful and rich sound to bear on funky and latin originals and a range of other pieces from the likes of Carla Bley, the Yellowjackets, Jan Garbarek, Joshua Redman and Louis Sclavis.

Andy’s award winning sound has drawn much praise from audiences and critics alike:

“His aim is to create music that might bring a smile to the face of the gods of the music” – live review

“beautifully phrased and perfectly nuanced” – live review

“Great sound, man” – Dennis Rollins, UK trombone sensation

“great trombone playing… soaring lyricism” – Mark Bassey, trombone guru

“Thinking man’s Jazz” – Don Lusher, UK trombone legend

Repertoire for the group now focuses on modern jazz originals returning to the roots set down in the first studio album FANCY GOODS.
