| Andy is an award winning trombonist having been a professional since the mid 1990’s. He led his own jazz quartet, the ADJQ and worked in a variety of orchestras, brass ensembles, jazz bands, big bands and theatre productions. Andy has been lucky enough to have accompanied such notable musicians as Georgie Fame, Bobby Shew, Mark Nightingale, Dennis Rollins, Alan Barnes, Bruce Adams, Jeff Hooper and many more. As a conductor, he led youth big bands, community wind bands and a school orchestra. | ![]() |
Awards include winner of the Guild of Guardians, Bristol Music Award 1991; finalist in the Young Jazz Musician of the Year 1996, BMI Brass Award 1996 and best Trombonist in the BBC Big Band Contest 2005.
Since 1996 he has been an established teacher of brass focusing on trombone, bass trombone and tuba. With a proven track record of tuition at Birmingham Conservatoire, Coventry University and Warwick Schools Foundation, he has also maintained a private tuition practice working with individuals and groups in brass and music composition and ensemble coaching.
Composition has also been central to Andy’s music making. Since studying with Richard Leigh Harris and John Mayer, Andy has gone on to produce many commercial and educational works for brass which are published here and with Warwick Music. He has compositions featured on the ABRSM, Trinity and Music Teachers’ Board syllabus for trumpet, trombone and tuba.
